JAM is a place where composers and sound designers work in collaboration across musical genres and audio applications. They share ideas. They inspire one another. They do great work.
Founded in 2007 by composer musician Hylton Mowday, JAM is a boutique audio production facility that is dedicated to creating unique sounds. With studios in Sydney and Cape Town, we at JAM are proud to present a diverse portfolio of work ranging from advertising, TV and film to games and interactive media.
The Team
Hylton Mowday – Composer, Musician
Originally from Cape Town South Africa, Hylton has worked in Sydney for eleven years composing music for screen. A versatile composer, Hylton moves seamlessly between genres and is comfortable writing and arranging music for both long and short form format. As a musician, he is a gifted saxophone player and an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, playing the range of the woodwind family as well as piano. Hylton is an active member of the Sydney music scene and performs regularly.
Andrew Stevenson – Sound Designer, Audio Engineer
Andrew a.k.a Stevo has been working in the post audio industry for over twenty years. Specializing in TV commercials, he has had a close working relationship with advertising agency Clemenger BBDO Sydney. Collaborating with the Clemenger team, Andrew has put his name to a slew of award winning campaigns.
He cites campaigns for Visa Beijing Games, RTA Pinkie, and Starburst Storm as some of his most recent highlights. Andrew attributes his success as an audio engineer to his continuing desire to create engaging and authentic sounds.
Graham Merrill – Sound Designer, Musician and Voice-Over Artist
Other than having one of South Africa’s most recognizable voices, Graham can also claim the accolade of being one of South Africa’s most respected sound engineers. Having been in the industry for more than twenty-five years, Graham’s experience is an invaluable asset to the team and his name has adorned more certificates than he cares to remember. In addition to being a highly competent voice artist Graham is also a singer with the uncanny ability of being able to perform without being auto tuned – a rarity in this day and age. The final feather in his cap is his talent on the trombone – the shiny slidey thing in the band
Arnold Vermaak – Sound designer, Producer & DJ
For the past fifteen years, Arnold has been producing award-winning sounds for TV and radio commercials. As an audio engineer, music producer and former DJ, he prides himself on his ability to comfortably make mistakes. “There is no successful creativity without failure. You must not be afraid to cock up” he says. Arnold also has an intimate understanding of the production process from the perspective of both producer and creative. Arnold a.k.a Prankster has recently launched his second commercial album Lay Me Down that he describes as a blend of sultry down tempo electronica, jazz and pop. You can purchase it on i-tunes.
